Introduction of Medical Department
-
Emergency medicine refers to the educational and research activities of emergency workers, as well as emergency care such as counseling, rescue, first aid, and emergency treatment from the time of occurrence of patients who cannot preserve life, who may suffer serious physical or mental harm if they do not immediately receive the necessary first aid, or who are equivalent to this.
Recently, the number of patients who need emergency medical care is increasing in Korea due to the rapid increase in cerebrovascular disease or coronary artery disease and the occurrence of various accidents. Since the 1980s, the composition of the emergency medical system has begun to take shape. Since the emergency medicine departments have been opened in several hospitals in 1990, and after the first specialists were released in 1996, about 200 specialists are currently at the forefront of medical treatment for emergency patients in Korea.
